Vaccines and Anti-viral Immunity in Mammals



The VIAM team (Vaccine and anti Viral Immunity in Mammals) studies the immune responses to viral diseases with zoonotic and/or economical importance in swine (Influenza) and in ruminants (Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) and Bluetongue).  We focus our work on the involvement of dendritic cells  in 1) the viral pathogeneses and 2) in the anti-viral immunity, with the goal to target this key cell type with new vaccine strategies including in very young animals. We study dendritic cell subsets in a comparative molecular and functional approach across several mammal species (mice, sheep, swine and humans). The dendritic cells are obtained from blood, lung, skin and from afferent lymph in collaboration with the Interventional Imaging team in Jouy-en-Josas. In collaboration with virologists from the VIM laboratory and the UMR1161 in Maisons Alfort, we develop new vaccine strategies based on viral proteins, chimeric antibodies, DNA and viral vectors. We also develop vaccines that are efficient in neonates.
